cold start

Put ignition on press accelerator pedal about ten times and you will hear fuel pump in tank working leave it to do its thing for a couple of mins then try to start should work first time if not might be pump in tank
 
Could be a starter motor problem, had a bit of the same issue, just removed mine cleaned all connections, earth was loose, then refitted and it fired up straight away, not had a problem since...

yesterday it failed again on the motorway then after 5 mins started again this happened twice more then the battery went flat called the RAC and they come out 2 hrs later put jump leads on and sugested i drive back home i said i would not have enough fuel so i went to the garage put fuel in
drove home ok the fuel gauge was ok and the orange light wasnt lit
any ideas im getting really fed up
 
before anything else you need a new heavy duty battery, a td5 requires a strong battery to run correctly as the ecu stops the vehicle starting if voltage when cranking drops to 10.5v,
 
the battery is good but after so many starts it was bound to fail i also have changed the filter before this failure
