just aquired a discovery 1 200tdi but it is so cold inside the heater controls all work but it blows luke warm air and the temp gauge doesnt move of cold any ideas guys .im new to land rovers but ive grown to love it over the last couple of months but it is to cold to drive it comfortably any distance.

Perhaps the thermostat is stuck open or has been removed. Or your viscous fan is buggered. Let the engine cool down completely and see if you can turn the fan. It should turn freely when it's cool. If it doesn't turn, the viscous fan clutch is bad and is turning all the time rather than when the engine temp requires it.

thanks for the advice i have changed the thermostat and it has warmed it up nicely but the fan is running even when the engine is cold is that right?

It's a viscous fan so it will spin all the time. When the temperature gets high enough, the viscous unit locks the fan, otherwise it just gets dragged along with the pulley.
With the engine stopped, it should turn fairly freely but with some resistance. If it's locked up with a cold engine, the viscous unit is u.s. You can do without the fan anyway in all except really hot weather or if you're doing some heavy towing.
Take it off and kep it in the boot with the spanner.

You can (carefully) test your fan clutch by starting the car and before it gets up to temp take a rolled up newspaper and place it in the path of your fan blades. If the fan is slowed by the paper your clutch is working. If it shreds it to bits then it's stuck.

the fan spins all the time....

that's why i took the fan out of my Defender, the only thing it does there is splatter water and mud all over the engine bay
