I have a broken front coil spring on my 300tdi, how hard is it for a novice to do and would i need a coil spring clamp to remove the broken one and re-fit the new one or can it be done without a clamp.

Cheers

Hardest part will be undo the bottom nut on the shock absorber. Then the four nuts that hold the turret in place. Once all that is off, withdraw the whole thing upwards.

Carefully lower that corner on the jack until brake flexible hoses are at near full stretch (but do not actually stretch them) Spring should them come out and you can 'pop' replacement in. There is a ring with thread on it that the shock turret bolts to on top of the spring. make sure that this goes back in as well.

If you wish you can undo the top swivel bolts to remove brake pipe bracket and the two caliper bolts and then you can drop that axle end right to the ground and make things 'easier' for you.

I would allow for a new shock turret ring and nut in case you end up cutting them off. Also using a wire brush on all threads and some WD40/PlusGas or any other penetrating oil the night before you want to do the job will help a lot. The bottom shock thread/nut will be the hardest bit.

As it's a 300 also be careful if you have an ABS sender on the front hub.
