Hi all,
Can any one recommend a decent coil spring compressor for removing the front springs on an unmodified discovery 1? Had a look on ebay and they range from £10 to over £100. Not sure if I want to try a cheap one unless someone else has used it and hasn't lost an eye (or two).
Cheers,
Chris

I got a set of laser ones from Halfords as they were the only ones open when I needed them in a hurry.
Think they were about £20, no problems with them.

Screwfix also do a set for £20

I bought the screwfix ones and they were fine.
Put some card between the spring and the hook of the compressor when you use it it helps to stop it slipping.

+1 for the Halfrauds ones. Only place open when I have the shock drilled and hammered out and realised I needed to remove the spring as well to put a new shock in (Micra).....

As @Magicgrotto says ... I jack the axle up to undo the shock bolt, then lower it, after taking the wheel off, and use the standard Disco bottle jack between the axle and chassis to prise it apart. There's just enough room to get the springs out. Way safer and easier than when I used spring compressors ... Oh the spring compressors worked, got the spring off .. they then flew apart, fortunately I'd taken them the other side of the shed ... Wouldn't trust them again other than a properly mounted set ..

Saw this method on youtube and would like to give it a go but only me working on it so no one around to call the ambulance if it all goes wrong!
