Our Forklift is an LPG only truck. The bottles we use are described as "LTO" - I.E. Liquid Take Off. Each 19Kg bottle runs the truck for a good hard eight hours graft.... I see no reason why you couldn't pipe one up to a car .... they even have a quick connector on the bottle - and as mentioned by JM, provided the orientation was correct .. it would work.

The tank in the garden is fine but if used for house gas too then you need two connectors.
Top one for gas to house and bottom one for liquid to car.

So, when I purchase my LPG from the LPG company, I pay tax, so why in the hell would I need to pay it again??
As for Propane bottles, I spoke to the company manager who said they need to be upside down so I get fluid only and they must be secure in the car.
Or I could purchase a pump to get it out of the bottle and into my car tank... However, all I want is a short duration use in case I couldn't get LPG while we were away somewhere in the car for instance.
I ideally need a 12v pump powerful enough to do the transfer because I live 3 floors up so electricity isn't really an option.
It will be different when we eventually get a house with a garden, but right no it's not an option.
I've seen some pumps on ebay, inc a hand bump, but I'm sure that would be a mare to transfer a full bottle of propane to the cars tank

You paid VAT but not excise tax when you bought the gas. More or less the difference between red diesel and the white stuff. Why are you pumping it up three floors?

I'll be runnin mine on Petrol, and ripping out the cheap offbrand system it has in it at the moment.
The V8 in good order can return 16-18mpg so i see no reason for Gas especially as she won't be a daily driver
Plus i get to put the spare wheel back where it belongs!!

Ok, I'll start again.
I have an LPG car. The nearest LPG station is 8 miles, so a 16 mile round trip. On trips away, I find it difficult to get LPG unless I'm in a city.
I thought it would be good to have back up, as in an LPG bottle (propane) and I could either make & install a bracket in the car, invert the bottle and run the car on that if I was miles from an LPG station.
Or, I could use a pump to transfer it from a propane bottle to my tank.
To do this, I would normally need 240v mains, but because I live 3 floors up, I would need a long cable and all manner of nonsense so instead of that, I would rather a 12v pump to run off the car battery.
Now do you understand?
As for tax, it's all government legal theft

It may depend on your supplier, but mine would not let me have a tank as I was too close to nearest outlet, and that was about 12 miles each way.
And I was a registered fitter too.
If you make a bracket, good idea and it should pass the Construction and Use Regs. May have to be careful at MOT time since they are even checking for oil leaks these days.
I would expect the gas to flow to your car tank by being pushed thru by the gas in the cylinder but wouldnt guarantee it
And you still have to pay tax

Mine has a pretty good multi injector system fitted which gets me 205 miles from 45 quids worth of LPG so I'll mostly be leaving it in...
I've spent a few quid replacing LPG parts the last two years so I know it's good for another few years.

From what the fitter told me, a certain amount will go through, but not all. I expect it's like an empty bottle Vs a full bottle, you may manage to transfer about half or less. But as I said, I only need to do it now & then, so wouldn't be going through umpteen bottles a day

Crumbs! It's a long time since I ran a full tank of petrol, but i think in the region of 320 miles per tank average of very normal driving.
The LPG tank will hold about 60 odd litres and the petrol tank about 90 litres.
Any idea where? I've looked on ebay, but I'm thinking perhaps Tinley Tech...

The government are arseholes who steal money at every opportunity, so most places are forced to shut down their LPG pumps through lack of use and super high theft....I mean, Government tax

Usually less mpg for gas or do you mean equivalent miles taking into account cost?
Not sure I'm getting 24mpg on gas! Although I have returned exactly 205 miles on a number of occasions. But petrol differs, some days I get more mpg (up to 360miles per tank of extreme careful driving, but I think the flavour of the petrol helps...)
Maybe I'm getting more litres of gas in the tank than I think, although it is a 72 litre tank and I do run full to empty (until it runs out and beeps).
