Hi need help I have Discovery 3 my suspension is down and show message
Engine System
HDC Fault system not available did diagnostics and code U0416 is showing

That code is often a symptom of something else possibly steering angle sensor or worn bushes in the front or rear arms

Thanks John but would this effect the suspension and ride height ?
Yeah, a lot of faults trigger the suspension to stop working properly, even a poor battery, transmission and engine faults also can do as the systems on the car are interlinked.
What code reader gave the fault?

Does it read all the ecu’s on a D3, I think there’s around 17 of them,
Apparently ABS sensors/ wiring and height sensors are another common trigger for that fault

hi

plus what the other guys have said

what year and model is it please, auto or manual

U codes can be ignored and cleared , that’s normally a data error miscommunication and doesn’t mean anything

after the code has been cleared see what codes come back

things to check first

1) brake lights work

2) battery is ok and check what the voltage is with a multimeter with the engine off and on, or get it checked out by halfords

3) does it clear if u turn the engine off and back in again

if i may say don’t try and disable any sensors as believe me apart from being a safety factor the D3 will throw some serious faults and light up the dashboard like a xmas tree

there are around 25 x ecus controlling everything from a bulb to the injection system, that’s the base model , lol

please let me know how u get on, if u get stuck ive got an iid and ur welcome to come to me and will plug it in FOC for u and clear the codes and see what comes up

as mine is locked to mine it will at least clear and read fault codes and live data on other D3

This maybe one for Gary, @gstuart. He's done quite a bit with the suspension on the Disco 3, and also the IID code reader on the vehicle.
Over to you, Gary.

seems these iid are such handy things to have, lol

have indeed offered if the op wishes to come over to me will plug mine in foc for him , know what those thieving dealers can be, now want £138 plus vat just to plug a diagnostic reader in , daylight robbery

found out on mine i can on any other D3

• Fault read / clear
• Live values
• Control outputs
• Service / test functions (this includes service interval reset)

Thank you for that I

It's sitting on it's arse and like riding a skateboard so can't drive at the moment :(

no worries

that code will tell u what miscommunication ecu it had , all that means is it couldn’t read that particular one but should have said after what ecu it is , , ie , suspension or steering etc

all it’s doing is protecting itself and of course annoying as hell

is it ur own code reader , have u cleared it and seen what comes back and does it give u live data

have u tried a hard reset yet

It's a friends code reader I'll get to come round tomorrow to redo it thanks again :)

no worries , remember u posted last week and with these vehicles it’s like banging ur heard against the wall without a code reader

things to check out when he plugs the unit in

battery voltage with a multimeter or the code reader with engine on and off ,
steering wheel angle sensor , ie steering wheel sensor reads zero with the wheel completely straight
abs speed sensor live data , make sure there all the same
hard reset , that’s removing the battery leads off the battery and touching only the leads together for 2 x mins , but of course not touching the battery terminal posts , not trying to tell u how to suck eggs

brake lights are working

then at least we know what figures u come back with

hope that helps and see how u get on

No point as it will throw up a fault and light up the dash

ur not wrong , when i was working on my front suspension i left a sensor unplugged , blimey i thought it was going to display more lights than a xmas tree , lol

@stephen Beardsley

just thought is urs an HSE model with the satnav screen please , as there a secret menu in that where u can also check some things

plus on the end of that code there should be another 2 x numbers which identified which ecu it is and can start pinning the fault down
