Disco 1 Clutch

Hi all,

A quick question. I replaced my clutch about 40000miles ago, which is about 5 years ago. For the past 2 years the vehicles sat doing nothing. When i parked it all was ok. The clutch now slips under heavy load. I find it hard to believe the clutch is worn so im wondering what ideas people may have? Could it be like brake discs, some junk on it which will go with time?

have you replaced the fluid? I'd look first at the slave cylinder. 2 years of ****ty fluid mixed with moisture and it will be ruined.

A clutch slipping has nothing to do with fluid or slave cylinder. But clutch not disengaging maybe, which is not the case here.

It's the springs that stop the clutch from slipping which due to lack of use maybe having a fit, have you tried seeing what will happen with a hot gear box, the heat may allow the plate to engage better and the springs come back to life. There not much else u can do other than looking at the clutch its self.

if it was a cheap clutch it could easily be worn out,but is there any free play in clutch pedal

Sounds to me like you snapped a few fingers when you first tried to move it

It wasn't the cheapest, certainly wasn't the most expensive either. However it did operate fine before I left it standing. I'll double check when I get home but I didn't notice a unreasonable amount of play in the pedal. Operation feels fine.

i was wondering if there was any at all after a few pumps of pedal

Fluid leaked onto it while it sat?

Right. Been busy but tested it yesterday and play appears to remain the same. The slippage is not as noticeable now either. Don't want to say its gone!
