This is very true Steve only a small amount in comparison to keeping a good vehicle on the road. The wifes 05 TD4 has 96,000 on the clock and hopefully still alot left on the clutch but it will have to be changed at some point so a good starting point in terms of how much is needed to put to ones side for that rainy day

Paul:)

Hi

On 145k miles, regardless of the advice NOT to change the DMF, I would say change it, especially if you're planning on keeping it for a while. And also, fit a solid one at your peril........... the solid flywheel does cause juddering problems once it 'beds in', as a work colleague will testify to. If it was the golden answer to replace DMFs for solid ones, all modern diesels that have them fitted, and there are lots of car makes that do, would swap for the SMF. So don't regret it when you get charged twice for unnecessary work, and fit a new DMF. There wouldn't be masses of info on the 'net about this if it was ok to fit. Do your own research on the DMF vs SMF, the reasons for them, pros and cons, then decide. :amen:
