Clutch Symptoms

Just wondering...

...does anyone know what the symptoms would be if one was to put a clutch plate in the wrong way around?

Specifically in my case, on a disco1 300 tdi?

I fear I may have done this.. can't see other reason why my clutch ain't workin'!

depends on how tight he bolted it on

Ahhh! That sounds good!!! unless Freelaner is right??????? Could that happen? Really???

I should be concentrating on hydraulics then?

Problem is, clutch feels ok, but is not disengaging properly! The clutch is sticking I suppose! Only doing half a job!!! Replaced slave, still same prob. May have another go at bleeding in morn, just to make sure!!!

it is possibly to get faulty new parts ,but bleeding can be tricky if it has a damper ,bleed nipple on cylinder at the top ?

Yup, bleed nipple on top, and yes has damper too!

If something else was amiss before the clutch went...then ok...but as all was well untill the fork gave way, which is why I replaced the clutch, I wouldn't have though any other part of the system would fail!

However, just thinking....do you think it possible for me to bend the clutch pedal so it doesn't travel as far as it should/used to? I did push rather hard a few times in a futile, semi-automatic attempt to get some clutch back at the time of failure!!!!!

no, not really. you'd know quite early on in the process if it was the wrong way round, keep listening to JM

They can be VERY difficult to bleed properly - as I found out when I changed the clutch in my brothers 300 tdi .
I think I left it overnight eventually with master topped up and bleed nipple open so gravity could get to work .
It didn't empty the master completely ; topped up master in the morning and clutch was fine .

Sorry to bring this thread up again but I had the fork go on my 300tdi the pedal stayed on the floor so stripped and found the fork had gone
So replaced fork, clutch, clutch plate and bearing put it all back in place now clutch pedal is still on floor I cannot see how the cylinder could be effected never opened or messed with that
I put the fork and bearing on and put the 1 plastic staple thing in place put a tiewrap around the bottom to hold the pushrod in place put it all back together and still nothing
any advice would be great because i'm using my motorbike at the moment and it is getting a tad cold plus I want the old beast bag on the road it's an addict thing this landy bug

shirley if the clutch fork has gon, then the slave cylinder would have been extended sufficiently that the piston may have popped out?e

MAD so if the cylinder extends because the fork went and I was standing on the clutch pedal this would cause the piston to pop out I have put the cylinder back on with the rod in place and still no presure how can i test if the cylinder is working

remove slave and check piston is in cylinder. then bleed system.

I had **** loads of attempts to bleed my 300tdi also.

First clutch went and I replaced it, clutch plate pressure plate fork etc, basicaly it all internaly, put it all back together, never touched the hydralic side of it,

Everything fine, clutch was minted, few weeks later I was offroading and clutch pedal went to floor,

Thought it was probarly slave cylinder, replaced, still the same, replaced master cylinder, still the same, tryed bypassing the damper, still the same, tryed changing the pipe that goes from the master cylinder to the slave cylinder, still the same,

tryed gravity bleeding, pressure bleeding but nothing,

Just couldnt get a pedal.

To be honest, I eventualy gave up, had enough, so I sold the old Disco.

Spent a few quid on the old bus too, but it just pist me right off, sold it cheap just to see the back of it and hopefully its a good old bus to its new owner and he gets it going.
