Clutch pedal travel

Hi, Just aquired a Defender 90 TD5. All good with exception of the clutch, it picks up just off of the floor and has a very short travel. Does this mean the clutch has worn out, it does not appear to slip. Further if it has to come out what is the best angle of attack, gearboxes out or engine out. The last one I did was a LR90 2.5 petrol, the engine being so simple it was out in a morning. All help welcome
 
bleed system ,check for leaks (fluid running down pedal ,wet gaiter on slave cylinder would need removing to check )undo 6x screw on pedal box adjust rod 13mm combination spanner best with slot cut in ring end to go over rod
