Hi.

The issue I am having is that when I press my clutch pedal there is a quite loud rubbing noise. When pedal is released, it goes away. When you are moving and change gear there is a whirring noise every time you press the clutch to change gear. There is also a very fierce creak or squeak on pressing and releasing the pedal. This all started after I got stuck for about half an hour in a very deep puddle. Up to about the top of the tyres.

I have a bit of mechanical knowledge but have never worked on a clutch or gearbox so I’m not really sure of the internal workings. I've had a bit of a search round on this forum and it seems that similar symptoms indicate a worn release bearing and possibly something to do with a fork. I have had a look round on the net and found all sorts of different referb kits.

My questions are:

From what I have described, would you agree that my problem is associated with the release bearing and the fork ?

If so can anyone recommend a suitable referb kit ?

I presume it is sensible to replace the clutch while the whole thing is off and apart ?

Is there a good guidance document anywhere of how to complete this task ?

I have replaced diffs and wheel bearings etc, would you expect that this will be within my capabilities or is it a very complex task ?

Thanks very much for any help.

Paul.

sounds like release bearing ,it would need gear box pulling from engine ,parts needed would be at least ftc5200g release bearing ,ftc2957hd heavy duty clutch lever ,frc5180 pivot ,buy you would probably want to fit new clutch kit stc8358 and spigot bush 8566l

Fit everything new no point spending time removing the box to put **** back in there did you have a wading plug in ?
As for the job its not hard just really ****ing akward without the correct gear there is two ways of doing it one is to remove the box and transfere box from under the vehicle and the other is to remove the engine from above i would rather life the engine out than try and drop the box if i was doing it on a drive but if you have access to a four poster take the box out you can take the box out buy just jacking it all up but in my personal view its not easy or safe others will argue though

No. I didnt have a wading plug in. I have a full set of breathers going up the snorkel now to avoid this again.

Just to be clear then. Parts I will need are:

Slutch kit stc8358
Spigot bush 8566l
Pivot frc5180
Heavy duty clutch lever ftc2957hd

Release bearing comes with clutch by the look of it.

I presume I need everything on there apart from 8 - 12 i.e. The slave cylinder.
