I was driving home the other day when i changed from 5th to 4th i found I was unable to change gear as if the clutch wasnt disengaging. I was able to drive home by matching the revs to the gears.

When i press the clutch pedal (which feels fine) the clutch only seems to disengage about halfway, i.e it slips the clutch but doesnt fully engage.

I changed the slave cylinder and bypassed the damper which didnt make it better.

I spoke to my local land rover breaker friend and he seems to think the pressure plate splines have become stretched or damaged.

I fitted a heavy duty clutch kit two years ago and im a bit amazed it has worn out already. I just wanted to check that it could be anything else.

Btw, pumping the clutch pedal makes no difference.

possibilities include adjustment on master cylinder push rod in pedal box, worn pressure plate ,internal failure/wear release bearing ,arm etc

When i had the slave out the arm was ok and hadnt been pushed through. Clutch release bearing hasnt been noisy. Im going to check the master cylinder push rod adjustment and if its not that its gearbox off time :(

just managed to get ours back into the garage due to clutch failure, rods gone through the release fork:eek: gearbox out me thinks:confused: ah well, back to the trusty volvo till i can ba arsed to drop the box.

Do you mean where the rod from the slave goes onto the clutch fork? Has it push a hole through?

My clutch is really annoying me now. I just went outside and was able to move it so i went for a drive and now it seems fine?

Im going to fit a new master and go from there.

Finally changed the clutch. The clutch i removed was an HD Borg&Beck and it had split across the metal plate releasing 2 of the springs:confused:

Anyway i replaced it with a full Valeo HD clutch kit with a defender 130 clutch plate, welded clutch fork and ap Lockeed slave and master, and genuine Land Rover crank seal.

I believe this is the strongest clutch you can have.

Therefore no britpart crap to break :D
