clutch cylinder adapter

hi, ive bought a replacement clutch master cylinder for my 73 series 3 6 cylinder lwb

when ive tried to fit it, the adapter part that screws in wont fit it bottoms out in the female thread about 4mm before the copper sealing washer touches

any ideas whats wrong - ive contacted the seller and he says he's sold hundreds and no problems it must be mine??

would mine be any different being a 6 cyl?

Might be wrong but I can't remember fitting the copper washer when I did mine last year. thought it was a taper thread?
on mine the threads arent a tapered but there is a taper at the bottom of the cylinder threads but the adapter piece has no corresponding taper to seal onto it - it relys on the copper washer

I have literally just fitted mine with no copper washer. There's still quite a bit of thread protruding but it doesn't leak :)

I'll take a photo of it in the morning if you want?
 
i know what you mean rob but i'm not really keen on doing that the cylinder casing would be soft so it proberbly would seal ok but i'd rather use the correct washer or tapered adapter
 
The end of the pipe going into the cylinder needs to be flanged. The pipe goes directly in and the flange seals with the taper in the cylinder. Sounds like there might have been a mod done at some stage.
 
The only differences I have come across are between my series 3 and early 110 V8.

The box for the cylinder states it fits both, the V8 has the adaptor and washer the series 3 does not. This could be down to previous owners using what they had to work with.
 
what i did in the end was get an extra copper washer and a flat steel spacer washer - so i had copper washer-steel washer- copper washer and tightned it up and it sealed on the origanal face :)
