Got a 2.5 with auto box done a filter and fluid swap ( dextron II ) about 1500 miles ago .
It has now started to make this noise when selecting reverse and slighlty when slecting drive at standstill . But when coming to a stop on the road can hear and feel what seems like the box going into 2nd and 1st ?? any ideas whats causing this ??

hi cornishdan, had a very simalar noise on my last landcruiser, and it turned out to be quite serious largley because of the cost of toyota bits, but here goes it was wear between front diff and transferbox you can check this by getting under your truck and seeing if your propshaft moves, ideally it should'nt move to much but if it does i'd bet that is your problem (not good) the cruiser eventually broke, could just be a uj on these though, you see toyotas ujs dont seem to wear which i think is what eats the diffs.
hgope im wrong .

regards steve

cheers steve just been and tried to move the front propshaft and it did move but only about as much as say the second hand on a clock would if it moved one second
The back one has no movement

Also when i put it in low range all the symptoms a much more noticable
Does this mean a new prop or is it something in the transfer case??

hmmm:confused:, would'nt like to say really not had a green oval that long, but sounds like symptoms i had on yota, would deffo look at your uj's i've heard there a bit weak on these ,but that in my opinion is good rather rub them out than diffs, also have these got drive flanges on the end of the cv's, these on the toyota were made to be sacrificial made of soft metal, again i think they were suppossed to reduce stress on the diff, and if worn you would here a clunk on pull away and when going from drive to reverse and vice versa.hope this helps.

regards steve.
