Can anyone give me some help on this strange problem? My clock screen and radio screen on my '02 Freelander sometimes fadeout completely or become very dim. Radio works fine even when screen has faded but the clock will sometimes have to be reset if the screen has gone blank for a long span of time. I have have seen both screens go blank at the same time when the outside temp is very high or when there is extremely heavy rain. No water leaks in the interior.
Is it possible that there is a loose connection somewhere that may even be getting damp? Land Rover dealer tells me both units should be replaced.
Is there any easy way to get to the connections for these units so I can see if they are clean and tight?
Thanks to all for any help.

Hi lrcrazy,

Mine also seems to start playing up the same way, the digits not always complete all the time. It's easy to check out the connections, just put a small flat screw driver under the black plastic cover and lift it out, than you see the lcddisplay fixed with two Philips screws, (left down corner and right upper corner), remove these and you can pull the display forward out of its logement, the connector is in the back, you have to push a kind of knob and pull the connector off the display. It's also easy to open the whole display but there is really not very much to see. As James said there are several on sale on ebay, unfortunately they are all in the UK, if one was available here I'd buy another one myself as I already tried to put some soldering on the contacts etc. to make sure of good contact but it doesn't make any difference, sometimes it's as good as new and other days it looks as a brick wall. Asked for a new one overhere and they ask 150€, as I wear a wristwatch it's too much for me to change especially as the radio always stays on 1 position, so ...:D . The same display is also present in the Rover 200 and 400 series, maybe their prices are cheaper than the genuine LR ones ?? Good luck.

Hi
I bought a new clock on ebay only to be had over by a fake seller although credit to PAPAL i got a refund. Just received another non radio display (previous was radio display) which the clock works but no light?
My freelander is an 02 facelift, does it matter which clock display I fit?
I can improve the digits on my old one but even that will not light up anymore?/
What am I doing wrong or am I just unlucky. Please help..............

Do I really need to pay £95 to a dealer, my landy is mint and I love it but I am dismayed that such an item fails so often in so many landy's, landrover should be ashamed of theirselves, I'm getting madder by the minute.

there is a thread on here which details exactly how to repair the both versions of the clocks. It involves dismantling the unit until you get down to where the connector is glued to the lcd display itself, at a pcb level.

Then it's just a case of re-gluing the connector. Didn't have to try it myself, but the instructions were well detailed. Was about 18 months to 2 years ago.

good luck.

Hi OP,

That's correct, I fixed mine that way and since then it's working perfectly, even better as new.:D

Hi All,

Just joined site - bought a Freelander a few weeks ago and clock does not have any display. I understand there was a link with a mend for this problem that was on the site 2+ years ago. Does anyone have the instructions or can anyone give me the link!! Other than the clock I am chuffed to bits with my Freelander but may have to buy a watch!!!

Thanks
