Hi everybody! I´m super new to this forum and also a new Discovery 2 owner.
I just bought a Discovery 2 - 2000 with a couple of fix on it.

One fault is driving me nuts!
I have from the fuse box a intemittent clicking from inside the box.
Its not from any of the flasher relays, I dubbel checked them twice.

I have tested a different fusebox with the same result.

This is my symptoms:
Besides from being an anoing intermitting click sound, My turn signals are very slow. abot half the pase from what it should be.
Some times when Drive gear is selected the turnsignals complete goes out. even hazard lights.
When the turnsignal completet goes out, the clicking noice disappear???

If I shift to neutral or park the clicking comes back and also the slow blincking turnsigals.
Another symptom is that when the clicking starts and my dip lights is on the interior light on the shift level is blinking in sync with the clicks....

So there is some kind of connection to the shift lever?

I also have the 3 amigos and can deal with it and also hopfully fix it. But this clicking is driving me crazy!!!!

Any ideas??
Kind regards Patrik

Hi Patrik, I'm sure the electic wizzards will be along soon but are you happy the battery is in good condition and holding charge. I would have said check the interior fuse box for water damage, but you have changed this already.

Thanks! measured battery yesterday to 12.4V off and 14,4V on, so thats good in my opinion.

Hi, this one seems an earth issue which affects both the BCU and IDM(interior fusebox) unless the BCU is fubar, can be a nightmare to diagnose. There are two earth headers where earth is shared by both and these earth points are both exposed to corrosion, C0017 and C0551(for this one you have to lift the carpet), see attachments. Check these to not be corrosion in them and to have good contact with the body. If these are ruled out and still the same download diagrams and electrical library from here https://www.dropbox.com/sh/47hbz40an5he5j2/jYpyDK2F0S and we'll speak again

P.S. C0551 is a bit controversed cos it's shown under pedals for RHD vehicles but on LHD should be in the same place so passenger side . I didnt have issues myself with that cos i took all masures to keep the car dry inside so i cant confirm, if you dont find it there see under the pedals as i suppose your's is LHD

If be checking earth's first too
I´ve checked the earth´s C0017 and C0551 inte the fot rest and they looked good, I even hot wired a earth wire direct from the battery and hooked it up to the earth points with no succsess.
I cleaned and checked the earth point behind the battery.

The sympthom is acting quite predictable.
1. After starting the car, the clicking usually start after a minute or two.
2.The clicking comes and goes for 15-20 minutes, and at the same time the drive selector lights i blinks in the same pace. Also the turnsignals relay go down to half the normal speed.
3.After aprox 20 min when in gear D the clicking ends and the turnsignal completly shuts off. If i gently puts the gear in N when moving, the turnsignal can be put on again.

I think the gear selector might have a bigg roll in this mystery ?

Even if i remove all the relays the clicks don´t goes away. So it´s not the flasher relays..

I will update further as the process continues, But feel free with tips and adwises cause Im soon running out of ideas.

Did you unplug those headers to inspect them inside for corrosion ? it can be inside and not visibpe from outside

here's an example from that type of header

Yes i opened them all up, cleaned them with electric cleaner and also scrubbed and cleaned the surface in the chassis.
I stumbeled on this thread; https://landroverforums.com/forum/d...al-clicky-click-under-dash-very-weird-101965/

My exact symptoms.. I was so excited when i found it, but the thread ends before a solution :(

Don't know if this can be anything to do with it, but there is a P clip holding the harness to either the tranny box or the gearbox, can't remember which, which is notorious for chafing and causing all sorts of nightmares.
Crops up quite often on here.
@sierrafery will maybe know from your symptoms whether it is worth investigating this or not.

THX, gonna check it!

I meant to replace the BCU before chasing other potential wiring issues cos as you said the IDM was already ruled out and this fault can be caused by a BCU internal issue too cos it's involved in everything you described and those earths are the only ones i know used by boththe IDM and BCU. The only problem is that the BCU needs complex programming with dedicated diagnostic tool

Do be sure to have a good look. You will have to undo the bolt to be sure of getting a proper look, but do listen to SF as he is brill on all this. No point in crawling around under your vehicle and getting all mucky for nothing.
Mind you, it could also be called preventative maintenance even if it isn't the cause of the problem. Like so many things on the D2.
