Well thanks to lots of time 'orf werk.
I decided to have a go at cleaning the back seats and wood etc etc
B4..
After the same cleaning techniques were used.
The cloth used was as u can see, RANK!!
18 years of grime..
After cleaning you'll notice the leather will have a "softer" smoother feel to it, a less shiny appearance.
It is important to understand all leather is different, the leather used in the P38 is generally quite hard wearing so a more aggressive approach can be used.
This procedure above was relatively sedate considering..
Leather also has a sealant which is supposed to protect the leather over time it gets embedded with filth, contrary to some beliefs the dirt will erode this layer away exposing the "naked" leather and thats when cracks the bad fatique set in..
If you keep the seats clean and conditioned it negates this wear and makes everything better for longer!!
Also if the seats are maintained the level of aggression to get a good result is lowered, there is no getting away from the fact that "hard" cleaning will erode some of the old sealant away if there is indeed any left in the first place..
It is also worth noting Leather is "painted" and if you rub too hard it is possible to take this colour out of the seat - it is often seen naturally on the bolsters where people side in and out..
A great example is usually the Grey leather used in some P38s.
Anyway enough of my ramblings!!
