Clattering pad

I keep hearing a clattering noise from the front. I thought it was a wheel bearing but I've found out one of the pads it shaking and clattering around in the calliper. It's really loose! I only fitted them a few weeks ago. The brakes work fine. It all went together properly and I'm convinced I've done it right. The other side is fine.....
Could it be the pins needs replacing? Or maybe it's a faulty pad. They looked fine when I took them out of the box.

It does stop when the brakes are applied so the piston must be working - I did wonder if the piston wasn't resting on the pad to hold it but not sure if that's the reason.

Take both the pads out again and smear the piston side of them, the back, with a thin smear of copaslip/copper grease then replace shakeproof things and pins..

I've greased the pads up and the pins - are there supposed to be the metal plates on top of the pads like on the rear? Neither side on the front had them on - just the pins with the split pins in the end....

Just checked paddocks and the front is only the springs and the pins, not plate retention. For £2.95, I might as well buy a new retention set. Possible the springs are knacked.

Oops, sorry .. fronts only have pins and springs. rears have the plates, my bad!

could be your calipers are worn and the pads arent sitting properly anymore

Check the metal stone guard that fits round the disc .. mine had a spate of catching stones etc and working loose. Sounded like a tin can rattling ..

if there not genuine pads they may not be the exact same size as genuine ones even mm will make them gingle around

A thin strip of rubber stuck to the back works well anorl.

if your pulling it all apart again why not get a new set of pistons and seals them is cheap enough and reasonably easy to fit

Cheers chaps, I'll take them out and have a look at what's occuring. I'm sure I can rustle something up. I hope it's just the springs on the pins are slack.
