Hi guys, advice needed!!...Ive got freestyle alloys on my Rangy classic, can i fit the 205 80 16 mud tyres ive just bought on to them or are they too narrow for the rim?,ive got the original vogue style alloys that came with the car and think that 205 80 16 was the standard tyre from the factory back then so if they dont fit the freestyles they should fit the vogue rims??
Also, ive been told that the car has an interesting history and was originaly sent to America for some promo work for Landrover, then when it came back to the UK it was converted back and resprayed green and fitted with the 3.9 lump that was being tested at the time, the engine has EXP stamped on it and the car carries no other badging than the bonnet and tailgate decals.
Where would i find out more about its history guys??

Keith

I just looked in the Tyre-Bible, and it says 205 80 16s are okay on rims 5.5" to 7". "www.carbibles.com/tyre_bible". I recommend it as good reference work for all that`s black, round `n` rubbery. (guess the rim size is marked on your rims, possibly cast or stamped as `16 j6` or `16 j7`?)
No answer here about history.

Thank you for that....I took them to a back street tyre fitter today to get a price on swapping them over and he wasnt keen, said he would have problems cos they were too narrow but the vogue alloys i have are 6j 16 and ive read they had 205s from the factory.
Someone suggested using the Disco steels reversed so that the deep dish is to the outside...Ive never heard of that before, have you?

Why do that? To keep mud off outside of tyres by rubbing them against the wheel arch? Could try it if you`ve the time and inclination, but check for fouling before any motorway runs!

You're right with the factory size - 205/80/16 or 215/75/16. Was the back street tyre fitter a young lad? Probably never come across 80 series before.
Reversed Disco wheels - The shape of the holes where the wheel nuts bed in/onto would be wrong if the wheels were fitted the wrong way round wouldn't they? Also, as GTLand says, I think you'd have too much offset.

Yeah,i thought the reverse rims idea was a bit wierd!! lol
It was a young lad that i asked to fit them and i reckon he was ready for knocking off!
Think i will get the tyres fitted to the freestyle rims but am tempted to do up the classic 3 spoke rims....decisions decisions!!
Thanks for the feedback guys!
