Classic Lift Kits

Well, I’ve just taken a huge gamble and bought a 1990 Classic 3.9 Vogue SE off fleabay.:doh::DThe reason for buying this is that I need a tow car for launching a boat which I do from a pebble beach (fresh water Loch, not salt water). As the beach is quite a shallow slope, it means I have to get the boat trailer and the car well into the water which quite often means up to around the back doors. So, I’m going to need a lift kit. Most of the ones I’ve seen at various suppliers all seem to be Britpart kits which I gather don’t have a good name (or rather Britpart doesn’t seem to have a good name rather than the kits themselves). Is there any other maker / supplier that can be recommended? I’ll probably be looking for a 2” lift.
Second question is will there be any castor correction necessary for this level of lift?
What about the axle vents?
Is there anything else I should be aware of?
So far, I've never had to buy anything from Britpart. What gives them such a bad name? Quality? Value? You name it?
Cheers.

dont let the fuel filler get below the water, as they are lower on yours and mine than the later ones.

Also check it for leaks in the rubber hose joints from the neck to the tank as even a pin hole could suck in water with the pump running. :D

To be honest, no, it's not something that had occurred to me. I can't say I've seen anything advertised for it either. What's involved (apart from the obvious)?

body lift would probs be better for you with towing, u just replace the little spacers that hold the body to the chassis with longer ones, and put spacers under the rad i think

V8_Disco - can you tell me what height you lifted your Disco? I am getting closer and closer to replacing the P38 with a Disco-1 which I intend to lift, by either 3" or 5", although the 5" looks a bit insane.

How do you find the motor for modding and working on in general?

Is it the 3.9EFi?

i cant see why you need a lift. What are you worried about the water getting in the car?And lifting it by a couple of inches isnt gonna make much difference.I did lots of wading in mine at satndard height the main worry for me was the fan and the air in take. The fan soaked the dizzy and made life very difficult but if yer reversing in i cant see an issue. If yer dont want water in the back maybe get a three door. They exported these well into the 90s (dunno if brazil got em though)

Yep, don't want water in the car if I can help it. I sometimes have to drive into the water to turn around to then back the boat and trailer in. I used to do it with the old P38 I had which was excellent with being able to raise it up. Hence the need (or desire if you like) to raise the Classic I've just got. The couple of inches makes all the difference.
I couldn't find a three door at the right price, otherwise I would have done.
It's gonna be used in Scotland anyway. I only work over here. You can only take so much sand, sea and wishful thinking.......:D:D:D

do you use the rear doors?Mine leaked like, well a land rover really. Also if yer deep enough to get water in the doors you'll get it coming in the holes in the floor.Maybe a days worth of mastiking everything up?Or sell it and buy a LSE on airbags?Id be most concerned about getting the sound proofing wet.Its a ****er to dry.

I do use the rear doors. I have an elderly alsation who gets in and out that way. Good point about holes in the floor though. Something else for the list. I know what you mean about sound proofing. In the past I've used an old square shaped Shogun and a Ford Explorer. Both towed extremely well but too low when launching causing the back to get wet through. Took an age to dry out properly. Before I got this Classic, I was contemplating another P38 that maybe needed work but ones with knackered engines were still going for £1500. And LSEs seem to keep their prices extremelyy well. I'll see how I go with this anyway. Just looking at Bearmach lift kits as Britp[art get slagged off on here so much. Anyone know anything about those?

Bearmach seem to be quite good on service items, ive had a few bits from brt part and there shocking. They are far and away the cheapest but when something breaks as yer fitting it youve not saved anything!
