Clarion Diversity

My LSE has a Clarion Diversity stereo with CD changer in the boot. The screen has come up with MUTE and sure enough the sound is very low. Now I've been through the instructions and I can't find MUTE mentioned anywhere. Anyone know what button(s) activates and deactivates?

do you have a handsfree car kit fitted ? sounds like the input from that

Probably caused by inadvertant pressing of the steering wheel switches.
If you have the radio security code, locate the fuse for the radio on the becm and remove it for a few seconds then reinsert it. Enter the security code then it should be ok.

I think the only steering wheel switches are for the (inoperative) cruise, nothing for the radio. There is also no phone fitted, although it is possible it has had one in the past. No obvious holes mind.
If all else fails I could just disconnect the battery for a minute.
