CRAG do a lot in the Shropshire / W Mids area

just did a trip today around Church Stretton with them - Did some excellent lanes and a couple were fairly technical.

for price of membership a year chance to get guided round some great lanes

Hi guys

It seems like years since I posted on here, but I've been without a LR for ages.

I do a lot of D of E walking with youth groups in the Long Mynd / Church Stretton area, but would love to get out there for Green Laning.

I'm not trying to gate crash your trip proposal, however if someone could point me in the right direction to get involved somehow I would be grateful.

Should I hang around here and and look for something like you're organising?
Someone mentioned CRAG - the website looks interesting but the FAQs are really old - should are start by contacting/joining them.
Any other ideas?

I have a (currently borrowed) 200TDi Auto Disco, totally un-modified. I just want to have a go at something without destroying my Disco or getting stuck somewhere on my own!!

Thanks in advance for any help

best thing I have found is to try and join a club or group

Crag around £ 20-30 a year and the guys are really friendly and helpful

they also do alot around Shropshire, Wales, West Mids area

I thought the crag site was out of use first time i visited but once a member they have an active forum you can post on

they are also very active laning and seem almost weekly to do something at the moment.

the fact you like walking is also a great assest. CRAG also carry out repairs to lanes along side the council to try to keep lanes open for all users not just motor vehicles.

this may be something your youth groups could get involved with

best thing to do is post about what you want and hopefully one of the regional reps will reply and maybe get in touch . they are in a better position to explain stuff than a mere member like me ;)

tbh best money I have spent and best way I have found to get out laning.

some of the lanes we have done recently are a bit overgrown. None of the lanes are very demanding for driver / vehicle and a stock disco will have no trouble. We did 2 lanes yesterday that heeded spotting through on certain parts of it and did pick up a few scratches. You always ahve the option to bypass the lane and meet up at the other end of it.

Thanks for all the replies to my query (many by PM), and apologies for the mistake.

It's a 300TDi I'm driving about in, not a 200 - D'Oh!!!

Talk about showing yourself up as a noob ;-)

Hi Tim I'm not too far away from you in Tipton and I've been a CRAG member for about 3 years.
I led out the 2 groups that Stu (above) has been out with and we really do try to have an enjoyable fun and most of all safe time when out laning.
Laning is only part of what were about though. We help to maintain, through our volunteer network, not only greenlanes but also footpaths etc. In other words we cater for all users of the countryside not just motorised.
If you want to get involved then just fill in the membership form online. The form will come to me and I'll process your membership from there.
