Taking of which - I'm going to try blue tacking a digital camera to the dashboard to get some laning video.

Don't know how well it will work as my wife has the decent camera and I'll need to use a cheapy.

Oh, and I'll volunteer to tow the van down he lanes - though I guess there will be a queue for that priveledge!!

Hmmm weather looks like it's going to hiss it down Thursday and start of Friday, then clear up to be sunny over the weekend. (a lot of fronts coming across W to E)

Sun and Mud ???????

I was just thinking of my road tyres and all that mud

Hmmm interestingly, my disco now has a full set of Wrangler AT/S's.

Still trying to work out exactly how that happened - but I do know it didn't cost me much. In fact less than I was expecting to spend on the 2 road tyres I was going to get:D

how much?

Well, I doubt I got the best deal possible - I'm sure you can get tyres much cheaper online than in a garage, but I needed them fitted and sorted, so I'm comparing like to like (ish)

Anyway, I know my dad paid £80+ a few years back for the Pirreli road tyres that were on there, so I was expecting to get a pair of tyres for around £150-£200

I was happy when I found a pair of Wranglers cheap - though I thought they ere the road versions. When they fitted them and I saw they were AT/S, I asked them to get me 2 more for the back to make a set.

What did you ask? Oh I know .... (just kidding)

I nearly got change from £200 for all 4 fitted - so I'm happy. 4 ATs for the price I expected to pay for 2 road tyres.

(And I've got 2 good condition Pirellis in the garage that might get me a bit of money back as well)

hmmm, where'd ya get em?

I don't think it'll help anyone else.

My local garage (Chemix) was ringing round all there suppliers trying to find me a particular tyre. They failed, but found me these instead.

It was a set of 5 de-mounts*, and I bought 4 of them (really ought to have bought all 5, but 4 was bad enough when I only needed 1 !!!)

So there's only 1 left where these came from. And they're 205s, and most people want the wider ones for some reason.

*in case anyone doesn't know, a 'demount' is just a tyre that's been fitted then taken back off the rim. Sometimes because someone buying a car wants to upgrade from the stock so the dealer is left with a set of tyres which the sell off cheap. The ones I've got haven't ever touched a road.

aint they spose to be 235? what bearing would they have on the handling? if any that is

only if you've got a posh disco with alloys ;-)

If you buy the cheap 'no frills' disco you got 205 on steel wheels.

I was getting 205 to match the other wheels, then ended up with 4 - so I could have had 235 I suppose.

However (and I'm sure I'll be corrected here) wider tyres give you more cornering grip on road - but it's a disco, it doesn't corner, it tacks.
Wider tyres also slow you down, reduce mpg etc.

Off road, not so sure, but I'm sure I saw someone once saying that the narrower tyres are better in some circumstances. They're certainly more likely to dig through mud/snow to firmer ground underneath (if there is any).

[steps back to await the flames from 'the people who know';)]
