I have done a re chipp of my Puma defender, and would like to know if any of you guys done it to. I was told once the governor has been removed she will be able to reach 160km/h, myne does'nt, she has increased in speed from 125km/h to 136km/h GPS speed.
The torque and power is defently a big improvement. according to the dyne she has gone from 90kwto 12 kw and the torque has gone from 360Nm to 420Nm.
She goes like a rocket but still with not much top speed, Any advice.

Cheers

note sure if many members on here have the new puma's or have knoledge of um give defender2 forum a look there are a good few on there + a few that do chipping and re-mapping

Assuming that your engine was healthy before the upgrade and would pull to its max then your top speed is limited by the gearing and wont be affected by chipping. It will accelerate quicker but 4000rpm is the same road speed unless you change gear ratios.

Yep Kleinhans is SA,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,with the gear ratio that was my idea as well but then some guys claiming they get this 160km/h, not sure why, they have not answer my question when I forward it to them, but when you get to the limit it feels more like feul starvation. But I will tray defender2foram.

Thanks guys.

The engine as it is has far too much torque for the current gearbox, everyone i know has had at least a change and one chap i know is on his 8th!!! I'd wait till they sort this out before voiding the warranty by chipping it!

surprise surprise its the same 1 they put in the mondeo
:wtf: :screaming_bug_eye_f

The pumas have an electronic speed limiter as standard which is set from memory to 80 mph. You describe a fuel starvation sensation which would lead me to think that this factory speed limter is still active and your reported top speed sounds close to 80 mph. If you haven't had the speed limiter removed, chip, intercool and turbo away but you will never get past the limit. Best check hey old boy!

I was told by my local LR dealer that the Puma Defender has the same gearbox as the Manual Discovery L3, and that has a lott more torque than a chipped Defender.

The company that done the software for the chipping say that the electronic govenor has been removed, but why the speed has not change much I don't know, but like I said, some guys claim 96Mph, so what is the defernce between theirs and myne, some company that done the software (Chipping)?????????

Cheers

My TD5 with standard gearing has pulled a genuine 100mph (sat nav confirmed) but its not something I would want to do often.
If the Puma is supposed to be a more powerful engine than a TD5 then something is wrong with your ECU map or your engine.
