Chinese Pistons for 19J

Hi, I have found ads for Chinese pistons for the 19J in several sites. My TD has the usual cracked pistons which I removed today. Would I be wise to consider a set of these ? Has anybody got any experience of them in their engines ?
Replies eagerly awaited, as I will have to make a decision soon.....
Thanks

Try Introduce Yourself section at top of lz homepage first!

I would use the best pstons you can get, 19j need all the help they can get!

Hi, In answer to the question from "Thor1950" the answer is YES. It's just that I've seen some Chinese ones advertised (cheaper than Brit, of course, as you might expect) and wondered if anyone had any first hand experience of them in use. I would be a bit reticent about buying Chinese but this could prove to be misplaced. I just don't know. There's a set of Bearmach ones on ebay presently which would cost about £140 delivered.
Anybody any comments on them ?
In response to "Turboman", I have posted my introduction in the appropriate section, so thanks for putting me right !
In response to Bushwwacker - I know Nigella is topical at the moment but I don't get the connection with this one - has the ice cream (maybe cocaine containing?) something to do with it that I'm not getting ?

Nice come back. :cool::cool::cool:
As most stuff from condoms to heavy machinery is now made in China, hell, even HS2 is going to be funded by the chinks, Bearmach parts are most likely chinky made, I say go for it.

What price are they may I ask, some are rubbish and melt the crown or pick up on the cylinder walls but others are ok:)

Hi, try as I might, I cannot find where I saw those Chinese pistons advertised, but the situation here has changed.
I pulled out of the shed an old 19J which a friend had given me as scrap years ago and, after I removed the head I discovered that the pistons were the Teflon coated ones with only barely detectable minimal cracks in them ! Looking further, the engine number was just 64 digits after the changeover to the 'improved' 19J - it just crept in by the skin of it's teeth !
That was the easy bit. Removing the sump and big end caps allowed me to remove the two inner pistons and rods but NOT the two end ones. Then I discovered why - the rods were bent ! Somebody must have terminated this engine by 'hydraulic(k)ing it in water ! I had (with great difficulty, as I didn't want to bother removing the crank), to angle grind and saw the big ends of the two rods through one of the bolt holes to allow the big end eyes to pass up through the bores and out.
Having done this I could examine the pistons very carefully and they look very serviceable indeed - certainly good enough for my limited and sympathetic use of the vehicle, so they're now earmarked for fitting to my engine - £160+ saved !

No, She's just my avatar and has been for a while.
:)

O.K., Turboman - just for you - a couple of 'black museum' pics relating to my last post. If you, or any others are of a sensitive mechanical disposition, I suggest viewer discretion - you have been warned !

"bushwwacker" - I didn't realise that Nigella was your avatar for two reasons and was caught out because: 1/ You said nothing; 2/ She's topical at the moment; 3/ It's a hell of a big pic. (avatars on other car forums are generally very much smaller). O.K.?

Yes, "jamesmartin", - It so happens I have already fitted a different set of (home made tester tested) injectors . The previous owner was known for messing about with pump settings, funny fuels, etc., so he might well have mucked about with the injectors as well.
Discussed raising the Ats (maybe up to 140) today with a local diesel expert but he says no - stick to the manufacturer's recommendations. I definitely will !

That is a good plan imo. If it is all working well the standard injection setup is perfectly adequate for an engine of this type. Trying to tune for added performance may overload the already fragile mechanicals of this engine.
