Yeah - saw that TV show about Rolls-Royce - seemed somewhat silly to me.

Old R-R's were all about the best engineering and the most elegant style. while they were very opulently finished, it was usually with good taste, and no bling.

The current R-R's are ( according to the chief designer) "designed to be large and imposing" - which is something that wasn't in the design spec of older R-R's, which were all curvy and voluptuous or stately. The diamonds in the panel were a somewhat ridiculous addition. Costly bling just for the sake of it.

Drove a new phantom once - very big and smooth - but not a drivers car - I much prefer the Bentley Flying Spur. My mate has one that I service, and it is a fabulous thing to drive - far more sporty to drive than it looks, and very understated and sleek. And goes like a bat out of hell. I'd happily drive it all day ( but not too happy to pay for the fuel!)

Yeah totally with you on the rolls point, they've become very german in styling! The old ones still look the best same with the bentleys, not a fan of the new cars at all

As to the 300tdi conversion that should make a nice driver, I do like my 300 disco :)

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

ah ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

whats going in your series???i thought the caddy and blower had long gone??!

Sup Simon!

No Caddy engine went to some guy cos he wanted a spare for his Allard, Chevy 454 is the current engine that will be fitted, after the 454 has been run for a bit I'm going down the Detroit diesel route!

Decided to sod building the series, keep the engine and gearbox and fit it into a new custom chassis then IVA it, 6mm box section chassis will take the weight and torque of the derv I have planned for next year

Got three Dana axles to 6x6 the bastard and the blower is being sold to fund stuff.

Everything is gonna go in one thread now anyway just need a section to dump it in seeing as it doesn't fit anywhere on this forum :p

Detroit diesel are actually very good for heavy trucks.

For Docs durmax or powerstroke would be better egspecially the ford 7.3 1000hp no problem

cracked heads.
cracked blocks.
gutless.
EXPENSIVE HERE.
no parts here.
too low revving, so need 2.83 kam diffs.
etc...

I don't want an ecu engine so thats out the window, get 1000 with detroit out the box anyway
plus powerstroke cost more for bits and I prefer old school engines

this isn't the 6.2/5 you had, this is a proper old derv

parts are plentiful in the states and easy to ship over or my engine man can get me anything I need

I have 5.13 diffs which with the correct box will be fine for 60mph as thats all I do in my disco anyway
