As per my last post, I have chopped off the back box on my 95 3.9 V8 classic. (rotten to bits)

There is a neat bit of pipe sticking out which I think needs something putting on it- Am thinking of a cherrybomb exhaust- anyone tried it and if so whats it like. ??

Failing that, has anyone stuck a side exit on a classic?

Or will it be OK just left as it is?

I was thinkin of the nice shiny red uns...... on just the one in this case!

Get it up Ye neighbours.....(havent got any only fields of sheep.....)

I have chopped the rear boxes off my 4.6 P38 and replaced the knackered centre box with one from a 200tdi. Replaced the rear section with some straight stainless steel pipes............

It sounds awesome!

I pulled the rotten back box off my 3.9 and shoved in a straight bit of stainless tube. Sounds great and really not that loud. You do need something there otherwise you get fumes in through the back.

Cherry bomb works O.K. as back box replacement, not really that loud, looks O.K. and doesn't get mashed as easily off road as the standard box and tail pipe. If you want loud, remove the middle box and leave the cherry bomb in place.

there ya go

Changing the exhaust to any kind of modified system, Straight through box or replacing with pipe will effect your MPG. Some systems will increase the mpg slightly others will decrease it. The more restictive a system the less fuel you use. The more free flowing the more you use. Plus most 'boy racer' type systems are designed for noise rather than performance. This reduces the back pressure in the exhaust system, this results in quite poor mpg, and reduced road speeds. Can sometimes increase the low end power quite a lot though. You may have to have the ignition timing reset to compensate for the change though.

I did try a straight throught center pipe on the old girl but lost top end and increased mpg.

But the sound OMG ye ye. Anyway back on went the center box.

So lookin at getting the sound back without losing ....to--much mpg.

Sorry for jumping in on someone elses thread...nice back box there.
