yeah, they might also say they only do superwinch not warn but cables is cable.;)

well is worth the extra ££££££££'s for the sticker..:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:, it costs a lot for the art work. which sticker do you want?:D:D:D

I know were I will be going...... local guy get exactly what you want....... at the end of the day they dare not give false or bad advice.....

Thanks, have ordered a new cable from Devon 4x4 who were pretty helpful anyway.

sorry to hijack, but this thread seems the right place to ask...

regarding caring for your existing winch cable, someone earlier in the thread mentioned oiling it once a month. Is that something everyone does? If so, what should I oil it with? 3 in 1? EP2 grease? WD-40?

And should it be wound out to be oiled, or should I just smother the entire cable spool with oil while the cable is on it and let is work it's own way through??

Only trouble with oiling the cable that I can think of is that it'll pick up all the road dirt and end up caked in crap!

So... what do others do with their steel winch cables as far as maintenance goes??

Not wd40. a Light machine oil would be best. 3in1 is proibable a touch too light. I'd be inclined to stretch cable and wrap an oil soaked sponge or cloth round the cable and run it full length of cable. As it'll also give you a chance to inspect the cable for kinks and spalls. then whilst the caable is under tension rewind it back onto drum.

You got shafted then!

what did they sell you and how much??

bet the local lifting gear specialist would have done it for a lot less.. any eye's cable or chains I've bought new have always come from the local lifting gear place.

true... i'll need some money before I buy one of those though, i've no idea what my winch is either to be honest (never looked closely at it since I bought the car)! I'll sort out a winch cover from eBay after the new year hopefully, but in the mean time I may as well put something on the winch cable.

So... 40 grade engine oil?? If so, used (which i have lots of) or new (which I have little of)??

New ^^^^^

would i have any problems with my synthetic rope in this cold? anythin i can do to make sure it stays good? its pretty new and is under a cover at all times

right, brand new 40-grade it is! I think i'll apply it with an old car washing sponge. I can't think of a better way... unless I spool it all off, wrap it up and dunk it in something...

Yes well great... In case you'd not noticed I'd asked a few times for advice where I could get one from but just got the usual "Do a search FFS" and "Let me Google that for you", dispite mentioning I'd already done both, and then one helpful link to a Rope and Marine services... Although I have F.A. experience of winches/landies so no idea how long I'd need/thickness/if they'd know what sort of hook I'd need or the rating...

Basically, I asked for help, got none, so just rang a shop who actually know what I need, and they sold it to me.

Could have saved a few quid possibly but I don't really care cos at least what I need is on its way to me now.
