£69 in unleaded at £1.09 a litre (criminal I know)= 63 litres at 4.5 litres to the imperial gallon that is 14 gallons ( why my fuel light is on in a 3.9 classic after 14 gallons is gone form a 19 gallon tank I dont know) anyway.

Round town driving gently 163 miles to the 14 gallon tank= 11.6mpg

Motorway at 65-70mph 231 miles to the 14 gallon tank= 16.5 mpg

Sound about right?

i burnt 2.5 k in fuel in less time than it takes you to fix your wagon.
ive removed the V8 and gone 30mpg diesel

also when i drove my 4.0 i used to get about 7-8 mpg you chicken.drive harder.

I have my v8 bmw for going fast , twice the power and twice the economy from the same size engine!

According to the computer I burnt 14 miles worth of fuel in 25 minutes going round and round the hospital car park looking for a bloody parking space last week! and was a diesel!!!

One of our RRs is a 3.9 classic with similar figures and sometimes you could just smell petrol as though it was coming through raw. Turned out the prob was a fuel temp sensor which intermittently thought the engine was cold even though it was hot and kept pumping fuel through like it does during the warm up period. Quick fix was to disconnect it when it was warm to confuse it but remember to replug in overnight to get it to start the next day. Probably not the most clinical fix but sorted the gutsy running. (As much as you can with a 2 tonne square box in a head wind!)

For £10's worth of diesel at £1.08 a litre I get roughly 40 miles around town, and if the fuel guage is nice to me I sometimes get 60 miles, lol.

I'd say that's a bit rich actually. After our trip to the Peaks earlier this year this is what I worked out:

Did the working out and it is a bit steep but not a bad as you might think. I did 650 miles in total so thats lots of fast motorway work, traffic jams, bimbling along the country roads and laning. Cost in fuel £200.00. Allowing for what's left in the tank the avaerage was 17mpg which isn't as bad as I was expecting out of the old girl.

Bearing in mind I drive with a fairly heavy right foot, I have mud tyres, the Rangey was heavily laden etc I would say you're either not light of foot on the gas or your Rangey needs more fettling. On the Motorway you should be able to get low to mid 20's. A roads probably down to 15-18. Short local hops and town work expect no more than 12mpg really and if you try you can get it into single figures

The computer told me i was getting 6.9MPG going up a hill near my house. And i have to use that hill every day!!! Twice!!!

I dunno about the classic tank but my p38 has a 100Ltr tank i think costs me about £105 to fill her up for empty!

Were all mad really!lol

I like burning fuel.

I've never put 100 litres in mine and I've filled it up from Empty, i.e. light on

Yup, that pretty much what I'm returning in my 90.

I would have thought they were all the same. i think its a 100 ltrs well it costs me about 105 to fill, but it has to be completely empty. past the light!lol

It will always need more fettling! sounds like I am doing good round town but not so good on the motorway, wonder if my old box/Torque convertor was anything to do with it , slipping slightly? it did lock up at 54mph though

i find that a manual is cheaper to run by 3-5 mog.more in some cases.

My 200tdi manual returns about 28mpg which is good for general running about,the v8 is much nicer to drive but for the difference in running costs i'm happy with my tdi.

Absolutely normal - its supposed to do that.

Have you checked the output from the MAF, you might try adjusting the CO trim, I run mine at approx.1.2v (yes that is 1.2 not 12).
