Hi Guys - bit of a call for help here - my mate Simon would like a set of sports headers (Hedman, Ashleys etc) for his 50th Defender V8 which he is restoring on a budget - he is going through a very costly divorce at the moment and she(genuinely) pounces on every penny he makes so price needs to be cheap. His only respite from all the crap is his beloved 50th.

Anything considered - even damaged/corroded I have another other buddy who is a dab hand with a welder.

Be grateful if you could all check your lofts/garden sheds/garages/lock-ups to see if you have anything.

Thanks in advance

Victor

your best to check on the The V8 Owners Forum - :: Index the have a for sale section, that is if you dont have any luck on here

Can i just ask, how did a 50th end up needing a resto?

You would be surprised - Richards Chassis now do a 50th version in both LHD and RHD - that should tell you.

my Good friend Colin has one of the best 50th's on the planet with only 50000 miles and has never seen a farm track - yet he has had a rear crossmember, 3 new doors, full respray, wheel bearings, calipers, transfer box etc etc.

At the London to Brighton last october a load of the 50th guys went down in convoy - all having been restored or undergoing resto in the near future - mainly things listed above

thats really interesting to read but i guess apart from the extras they have fitted as standard there essentially a 90 and will rust like one. I just thought that they might get treated nicer due to prices they command!

Obvious i know but ebay always has headers popping up.

Definitely would not recommend trying to bend yourself, apart from a mandrel bender costing far more than the headers themselves, it really is a tricky task and the whole idea is to have the design correct.

Hedmans are decent for the money and being steel are cheap, Ashley units are a rarer item for sure.

Anyway, many on ebay so im sure some can be found at the right moeny, just need something huggy to fit between a Land Rover chassis :)
