So, working on my truck today with the intent of added the final touches on a 200tdi conversion, I came to realize something about the LR Santana 2500DL. It effing has a Series III chassis. Why would they put such an old chassis on it? Is there any particular benefit to keeping such dated axles, and suspension?

Anyways, moving on. There are a few things that I wanted about the Santana. The four roof windows, a tougher transmission, and the fact it's left hand drive without having to spend close to $40k were major selling points to me. But the lack of replacement parts, and the ability to upgrade to how I want it have become difficult.

So, how difficult would it be for me to buy a parts/ spares 1987 and prior One Ten and keep the chassis and axles and move the LHD steering column, and cab from the Santana onto it? The body, etc. on the Santana are the same as the Defender, but on 109 chassis and axles.

Is it even worth me doing? I'm already in pretty deep with converting it to a 200tdi.

Thanks in advance.

No, it's actually in very good shape. But, I'd like to eventually have the suspension lifted, which would need coil springs. Also, I'd like more options for the suspension in general. And, in the near future I'd like to put SVX wheels on it, which with SIII axles would mean I need to purchase adapters. Eventually I'll need to replace the wings, doors, and much of the interior as well. So, I'm thinking just buying a legitimate 110 would be much cheaper than buying everything piece by piece. If I'm doing that, I may as well swap the chassis. Well, pending on difficulty that is. ;)

A bit too pricey for me to get a LHD Defender at US import age. They tend to run on average about £20,000, which for me is about $33,000. But, definitely thinking of just selling the Santana any ways, biting the bullet, and buying a RHD.
