I have a 9 year old defender TD5 and my chassis especially at the rear has started to get a coasting of light rust everywhere, changing from its nice black colour to a rusty dull finish...

Whats the best way to protect my chassis from any future problems and prolong its life further? :)

Some nice chassis paint, I've used tetrosyl chassis black which is good, then wax oil and probably the most important is to clean it regular especially in winter

Jet wash

Allow to dry thoroughly

To be honest not many places you truly can't get to with a brush, but where you can't spray black dinitrol 4941 chassis wax - comes in aerosols and seems to travel a fair way from the nozzle!

Another vote for Dinitrol here. Makes me feel more professional than Waxoyl. As well as buying it in liquid form that you can use with a spray gun, it's handy to have an aerosol for when you're doing any other work on the Land Rover, so you can give a spray to any exposed ferrous bits and pieces while they're easy to get at.

I've recently used the "Dynax" range of products.

Very pleased with them - the dynax UB (underbody wax) is very easy to use, sprays nicely, without too much mess.
Dynax s50 is for box sections etc, again, easy to use, with provided lance.
They also do Uc which is clear wax - for bits you will see.

I've tried all sorts of rustproofing waxes etc through the years, and I have to admit that these were by far the easiest to use.

I initially bought a few cans to rustproof my Everyday car ( just to give this stuff a try) and I was so happy with the ease of use that I bought a load for my 90.

You can get it in liquid or aerosol, from a company called bilt hamber.

It's been noted here before, which is why I have tried it, and reccomend it.

as for getting hold of pro quality chassis paint, check your local yellow pages for car bodyshop suppliers, they tend to be a bit focused on the professionals but some can be very patient with us amateurs given the chance, round here its Border Automotive in Shrewsbury, and they are real helpful
