Disco 2 Chassis protection

Hi all , I'm looking to give the chassis a bit of a clean on the rear half, around rear of transfer box and back . I dont want to go stripping it as use it every day but I have access to a warm workshop with air tools so I can scrape the loose off and wire brush as much as I can .

What's the best protection? I have in past used schultz and waxoil. Waxoil I dunked in a bucket of warm water for 15 minutes and sprayed onto a transit many years ago ..

Any other good products to use ?

I recommend a rust converter rather than brushing it then apply waxoil or other protector... +1 on the rust converter - I use Fertan - it needs water to work - so easily achieved in this balmy dry weather

And I use Bilt Hamber underbody wax once the fertan has done its stuff

Waxoyl was good years ago, but is now a domestic product, IMO.

That's a performance chip for the td5 not rust converter .

I've watched a video on how to use it but usually a bath on a container... how can I do it on my chassis when be using it every day ? I can unbolt a few things but I cant go stripping it too much . I would think something spay on be far better to get into the places.

After a rust converter, I use a zinc rich primer, then a chassis paint.

As the stuff is water based what would you mix it with? It’s used neat.

I spray it neat - with a tiny spray gun I got from a certain chinese web site - bang good (!!!) - think it was a mahoosive £7 the robbing bu@@ers

Spray at a really low pressure, and wear a mask - cos it does not taste nice - ask me how I know

Not worth it for spraying - mixing it is more for using inside stuff like tanks - which I've anorl - it works really well IME.

In that case il get some ordered a cheapo spray gun and before I do it il give the chassis a wash as good as I can . Then a scrape/ brush off and apply drive around for a few days then apply the wax .

I was thinking to leave till the spring once weather warms up and the fear of salt on the roads has gone .

Well I've ordered some, so let's see what it does.. my 53 D2 has a good rear chassis, so will try and keep it that way.

Black is so "last year"

The chassis cross member in front of the tank is under treatment by Fertan, as are other bits - when the Fertan has "done its thing", then the chassis gets painted ......And Dintrolled over the top of the paint.

Better than good

- Dinitrol and Bilt Hamber both do professionally rated anti corrosion products which are bl@@dy brilliant IMHO, and for example the opinion of others too - download the BH independent test results from their site - you will be impressed.

@gstuart is a fan of Dinitrol too

Here's a pic of my D1 cill, simply coated with BH Dynax S-50 after fitting four years ago.... not touched since..

I could produce similar pics of stuff protected using Dinitrol.....

I think my rear end is a bit far gone, patched for last MOT.
