My 98 P38 dse hasnt wanted to start now for a couple of weeks and is 60 miles from the nearest dealer with testbook . it was suggested to my by a couple of sources that the becm needed resynching. i purchased a syncmate from blackbox which is returning the error
1 EMS did not respond to wakeup (red light flashes once)
ive cheched the ecm fuse in the fusebox and am now suspecting that the engine ecu may be dead and need to be replaced as the guy in this thread had identical symptoms to mine and that was his solution.
Range Rover P38 dead diesel ECU? - LR4x4 - The Land Rover Forum
can anyone answer the following questions.
1 if i stick in a second hand one, will synching it to the becm with the syncmate
be enough or is further programming/equipment needed.
2 the bosch part number 0281001273 for the ecu is the same as some 93-95 bmw 525 td cars. one of these might be easier and cheaper to obtain. I know that it would be mapped differently but would it be worth trying or possibly even an improvement
with the higher bhp.
3 is there anything i havent thought to ask?
thanks
