Is there an easy way of chaning engine mounts on a 2.25 without removing engine / seatbox etc? I have an engine crane and a selection of trolley / bottle jacks.

Also, I ordered some Craddocks cheap mounts but now decided I probably want some proper ones to save having to do it again next week....any recommendations of where to get em from?

D

I know the engine numbers, just there are several different suppliers to several differening patterns. I asked for recommendations of which ones to get - only recommendation in that thread was to spend more than two quid....

Do try to read posts properly before being pedantic old girl ;)

Aye, was poorly yesterday and missed all the fun - me favourite boozer is out of action for at least a week and I lent my new angle grinder to the Landlord to use in the cellar last week, won't be seeing that again!

I'm up on one hill, unfortunately Landy is on other side of valley at mo and not much use with a loose engine so coundn't get out to help anyone anyway.

I think I might end up sticking **addocks cheapo mounts in as the genuine / better ones from elsewhere seem to not be next day and need Landy now. Hopefully the crappy mounts will last a couple of months at which point I'm planning a strip down and chassis sorting session...

if you have any greif with the cheapo ones take it down to green bros in littleborough ( nice half hour drive ) theyre verry helpful reasonabley priced and dould fit the buggers there and then for you :D:D:smokin::smokin:

I'm determined to do everything myself on this motor - though I do keep forgetting Green's...last time I went to their, now close, "recycling centre". They swapped me a wheel for my bus, which turned out to be the wrong size, then couldn't find the original!

I'm guessing when I jack up the gearbox to free off the old mounts I undo the rubber mounting and the bracket together? do I need to slacken anything else off or should there be enough free play to do one at a time?

D

Well, another job that's turned into a more complicated job.

I put jack under middle of gearbox with a piece of wood for protection and jacked up half an inch. the mount rubber broke in two on passenger side. I got the two bolts on the chassis bracket out ok and the two back bolts out on the gearbox bracket. The front two I can't get in to undo the lock tabs and so can't get em undone. I'm going to have to get the bracket off as the nut on the back of the rubber, after digging out all the mud, is just a mess of rust and can't get in easily with a grinder.

I started taking the seat-box out, to make it easier, but that has just ended up in a lot of sheared bolts and frustration....off to buy another grinder and some decent drill bits tomorrow.

Is there an easy way of undoing the lock tabs on the gearbox bracket? Or some other dodge that you experienced blokes know of?

Cheers,

D

Cheers James,

I might end up taking out whole gearbox anyway. I've got a noisy clutch release bearing that I need to do as well...

Thing is what supports the engine when gearbox is removed is it just the two engine mounts, if it is then it's likely they are knackered too and don't want me engine dropping out!

Right, I ended up doing a million other jobs (seatbox out, fixing up knackered sills, reverse light tinkering, removing rattle from gear lever, cure leaks, refit exhaust, etc etc) last night but not the clutch - decided to leave well enough alone!

Done one garbox mount and second one should(?) be simple. So last daft question, still not sure: Can I jack engine up with block of wood under sump or will it buckle?

D

Don't know if it's recommended but I did it with a thick bit of ply on the jack and the sump was unmarked. Also I jacked under the fly wheel housing ( till I had to take it off)
