Ok guys here we go with the argument over Air and coils again. My 1999 se is on coils at present and has been since i bought it last year. Over the last few months i have worked on all the faults even down to the cubby box gas strut but the one thing that still kills me is the fact its on Coils. As i mentioned in an earlier post it came like this and after a look around it seems that apart from the air bags and a couple of ride height sensors its all there. Iv now got to the point where iv decided im keeping the car as it has a fairly low milage and in excellant condition and so it now must go back on air. I can wield the odd spanner here and there and im no novice but hate electrics, so first question is there anyone out there in Kent on the site that has the software to reset everything and can offer moral support and a hand. Obviuosly im more than happy to throw in the odd beer barbeque and if need be her in doors into the deal, just dont let her know the last bit. Secondly im thinking of getting a breaker off the bay of the e that has air working just for the bits i need and can swap over and have a referance of what should be were. Any bits left can be sold on or scrapped and i can hopefully break sort of even. Is this a good idea or not and should i just bite the bullet and buy new???

Any help appreciated.

IMO without a doubt buy new
Not horrendously expensive and wont be perished . Difficult to tell if old bag has a slow leak without actually fitting it

Mine was on coils when I bought it, and much like yourself I wished it was back on air as it should be, basically I bought new air bags just to be safe, went right through the eas setup looking for anything that had been removed during the swap. In my case it was all pretty much there, the relay in the main fuse box had been removed and the relay under the passenger seat had been unplugged but was left under the seat? once I was happy all the parts were present I fitted a new drier and connected the bags to separate inflation valves and left it pumped up over night to see if the lines were air tight. the car stayed up all night no problems so I released the air reconnected the lines and using the free software reset the system. it pumped up eventually but was a tad slow and the compressor ran more often than I would have liked but fair play the ride was great! I then bought a seal kit for the compressor and the valve block, and fair play it transformed it, straight up no probs and holds air superbly. not too difficult with a bit of patience, give it a go and I promise you will be glad you did.

Steve.

you see welshsteve i was full of confidence untill you threw that spanner in !!!!. This eas over ride is this what will be causing my display to say eas in manual mode when i start her up???. The switches on the dash are there but nonw work or light up with the exception of the towing mode. Also i have just removed the drivers seat to do the heated seat and thought there was only the heated switch gear but may be wrong

Yes no probs let me know when you have all the missing bits and I'll pop down with me tool box and lap top

This will be my next big big step as I've got coils too.
Spoke to a specialist and he said he has got every confidence in the air system .

The becm is under the drivers seat and you will find the over ride loom plugged into it, it's no big deal to remove and will be very clear when you look at it.

Cheers Dave will hold you too that. Never had a problem with confidence in the EAS its just a case of looking after it like most things. Problem with P38's is that they run and run with so many electrical issues and people just dont fix them as they keep running. I would think that whoever changed mine possibly spent more money and time putting coils on than actually fixing the fault.
