Changes gear gaitor now gear light stays on! Help!

Hi,

I'm new to Land Rover ownership and have a Freelander 1 Sport V6. The gear stick gaiter was quite worn out and peeling and I decided to change it. It was a bit of a nightmare to change but eventually I got it done.

However I noticed that the selected gear stays (light next to P) on even when I switch the ignition off and lock the vehicle.

Any advice would be appreciated... hope I haven't screwed anything up.

Does it fade with the interior light after 20 seconds or so?

The gear indicator stays lit until the TCM goes to sleep. It's perfectly normal for it to remain lit for some time.
