Evening Guys,
The oil seal on me 300 Tdi rear diff is leaking, read all the posts of how to remove / replace everything unfortunatly, when i tried to remove the Centralising peg using the cheaper method in the photo istead of buying the correct LR tool pictured below.
The 8mm screw snapped off and is still in the centre of the Centralising peg, ive tried stud extractors but they feel like their gonna jack on me, i've tried heating the peg, could i weld a bar onto teh peg and twist Centralising peg out and obviously will need to buy a replacement, has anyone come across this before, and have a better solution.
Thanks for any replys/ advice and a good slating from redhand:D

Cheers bemmy

Yeah get a disc cutter and chop down the side of the flange and replace it with a 200 type flange and prop while you are there
Or if you want to keep the current set up I have a replacement flange and pin

Matt,
Thanks for he offer i am gonna drill out the snapped bolt and re-thread and try more heat, hopefully not damaging it to much, i know the thread in the centre is only for LR's pricey tool, so should be fine to re-thread a size or two up.
Again thanks very much

No probs if you have access to a welder then weld a nut on the end saves drilling etc
As once you start to get it moving then they can usually just be pulled out with grips

I did one for mate on Sunday as the new doughnut fell to bits after 100 road miles and 1 p&p day
so while it's apart it's worth swapping to a 200 type set up imo

Like I said if you want the 3 bolt flange and pin just cover the postage costs and there yours!

Remember there is a rubber oil seal behind the flange that will melt with heat.

As has been said before, don't waste time playing with it, cut it off.

The cost of a replacement far outweighs the time you'll spend messing around with it.

I clampped mine in a vice and with gentle heat hit the flange until it popped out. But then i did the 200 rear prop mod instead. Alot better than the silly rubber doughnut. If you do that you will need the spacer out of the front 300 diff, or get one made up it 13mm, and sits between the drive flange and bearing

FunnyKipper,
Totally agree with you on cutting the bugger off, but don't want it to get the better of me so will give it one more go.
Got a new oil seal and protector to replace when it's off.

Matt,
Might try welding a nut on Cheers
Thanks for advice Guys
