Evening all, I decided earlier that I am sick of messing around with different keys for each door and the time it takes to open them. I have a 1987 Defender 90 2.5td. Is it an easy job to fit central locking? I have found this package on fleabay

UNIVERSAL*REMOTE* KEYLESS CENTRAL DOOR LOCKING KIT 2009 on eBay, also Car Alarms Immobilisers, Security Electrical, Car Accessories, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 31-May-09 23:35:18 BST)

...would this do the job, and is there any extra bits and bobs I would need to go along with it? Cheeeers,

Oli

just remembered i fitted a kit like this to a crapi many years ago, remember that worked okay, tyhe punter also had me fit leccie windows. LEE

thanks olmasters, i think i will go ahead and order that central locking package and try fitting it. It seems like it should be relatively simple apart from the back door lock which needs slightly altering. I will give it a go and let you know how it goes.

No problem, fitting looks a doddle and im sure rear door shouldnt be a problem, just the case of drilling the locking lever as in the pic. Seems really cheap too and the kind of mod pretty much anyone could do too :)

I plan to do it eventually, got 2 solenoids off a fiesta, (free) and a remote alarm/imobiliser/locking system (free) only thing i have to do is work out how to interface the fiesta solenoids to the alarm ecu. Shouldn't be too hard, may need to make mesen a wee digital controller though.

i have a Mk1 disco the key fob flashes but the central locking is still on and the alarm. need to get home what can i do

hey, bought an auto start immobiliser and central locking off this crowd a few months ago, works a charm in my 110, takes a bit of wiring though, came to about €80 if a remember correctly, and yes if will work on the safari door lock, but it requires making up a part to put a 90degree bent in the operating angle of the motor, easy enough to do, if you have a haynes manual, theres a picture of it under electrics or something if i remember correctly?!

I wired in central locking too during the summer and its pretty easy to be honest, and ive now got round to sorting the lock on the safari door. Its a little more crude than latter defenders with inbuilt central locking, but i didnt really fancy cutting into the locking mechanism.
