i am haveing trouble with my remote for the central locking on my 1993 disco i have put new batts in and now the thing will not unlock or lock the red light comes on the fob.??????? Do you have to reset the central locking some how ?

To check if your alarm is working

To check your alarm system:

1.Open the bonnet and shut all the doors
2.Get an assistant to hold down the bonnet alarm sensor switch
3.Lock the drivers door with the key in the lock
4.The indicators should flash 3 times and the red LED on the dashboard will flash rapidly for 10 seconds. The flash will then slow down
5.Release the bonnet switch. The alarm should sound and the indicators should flash

To reset the fob

1)Starting conditions: ignition off, doors unlocked, bonnet switch depressed.
2)Steps 3 to 9 MUST be carried out within 8 seconds.
3)Switch ignition ON.
4)Switch ignition OFF.
5)Lock doors.
6)Unlock doors.
7)Release bonnet switch.
8)Switch ignition ON.
9)Switch ignition OFF.
If alarm is correctly accessed, the horn will sound and LED will light. It is now possible to programme two handsets of correct frequency to vehicle alarm ECU.
This must be carried out within two minutes.
10)Press and hold down button on first handset until dash LED flashes.
11)Repeat instruction for second handset.
12)The LED will extinguish if both handsets have been initialised correctly.

Was the replacement battery a decent make, as as the 50p cheepies run down in storage leaving only enough power to light an LED but not to transmitt.

dunno if it will help in this case but usually after changing battery all you are supposed to do is press the button 3 times in quick succession obviously while in range of the car , worked fer me when mine stopped working after a battery change , info came from stealer
