Hi again everyone, looking through various webpages etc it seems that this is a fairly common problem. You'd think there might be more relevant information available or easily accessible..ummmm..not.Haynes is pants and Rave..well I can't seem to find what I'm after. So here's the problem...No central locking...nothing,no clicks, whirrs grinds or anything...Forget the keyfob as that does the imobiliser bit just fine. From what I've gathered there is an ECU for the central locking, yes? possibly AMR 6429,situated behind the glovebox. All the fuses I can find are ok.So is it best to work backwards from the ecu or does the drivers' door 'actuator' provide the key,as it were.I'm assuming none of the relays under the glovebox have anything to do with it?...Any suggestions or ideas and have I got the basic principle right...Thank you.

Taking the alarm/central locking ECU is the start point, u will be moving forwards, backwards will be just as far as checking the power supply to the unit.

So going forwards the next stop is the master actuator in the drivers door, when using the key in the lock does central locking operate? if not u may have a faulty, disconnected or lack of power supply to the actuator, so you will have to remove the door card and have look.

If the master actuator operates in locking/unlocking so will the four other slaves and your assumption is correct. :D

Thank you for that...I have a few of the ecus's saved on E-bay,seems like a worthwhile first step to rule it out before going any further. At least I know now that I'm going in the right direction. Thanks again.

So today was the day for removing everything.....I am soooo a newbie....like I said at the beginning the info out there seems sporadic at best, probably helps if I knew what I was doing.Anyway, spent the morning inside the passenger footwell...Managed to remove the central locking ecu...well actually I took out the window lift ecu by mistake...which was ok as the rear windows don't work anyway. It was all a blessing in disguise. The said window lift ecu was then duly taken apart and was probed with a soldering iron in the search of dry joints..all to no avail..so another has been ordered (£15 inc p&p)..The best thing I could take from the mornings labours was that the central locking ecu that I removed was completely different to one I thought was in there..I've been looking to get hold of an AMR6429 and what came out was an AMR2109....and just to prove how rookie I am,today I learned that a Landrover DIscovery will not start with the central locking control unit unplugged ,regardless of whether it works or not....Always learning.

Try this Fixing non functional rear windows to cure your rear window problem, a simple fix and it costs nowt :D

Thanks for that one,it's almost identical to the one I'd seen."Repair a Land Rover Discovery electric window ECU to make the rear windows open again"
I tried re-soldering as per the pics (same place as the one in the picture) and a dozen or more other joints but it still wouldn't work.I didn't want to push my luck just incase the front windows stopped working..and with the nice weather.

That's no mix & match with AMR6429 two button system and AMR2109 single button system.
AMR6429 is used on vehicles VIN VA#####

See..I like that kind of info...I wouldn't have even thought about using the vin number...like I said before, always learning..Until yesterday I didn't even know there was abs on him...I'd spotted an empty fuse holder..but hey, that's for another day.I am awaiting arrival of the window ecu and will keep my eyes out for the AMR2109..Do I assume it's best to get one with a fob? or is there some easy procedure to use an existing one...or am I just asking a daft question?

Yup get the the fob as wel if you can, a handy spare maybe.
Single button fobs are user programmable to the ecu as long as it's radio frequency matches with the fob is the same, which a fob supplied with the ecu AMR2109 will be.

Great that's good to know.Seeing as I'm spending much of time in the passenger footwell due to the lack of central locking and also having no rear electric windows can anyone point me in the direction of identifying the relays underneath the two ecu's in question?..

Best thing you can do is buy a workshop manual.

Well I have the Haynes manual and access to Rave and both are not listing anything to do with a relay for the rear windows,so I guess there isn't one and I need to start tracing the wiring back or else I'm not seeing something staring me in the face.

Update...AMR2109 arrived today, had to wait awhile to get one at the right price.Fitted and now have central locking....apart from the boot door but that can wait for another day,for now I'm just going to enjoy not having to reach all over the place to let the family in...Yay.
