Radio works fine no problems but the cd player has a very low volume. Anybody tell me what to check?, it has a Harmon kardon system. It is a 97 4.6 hse.

You could try cleaning the units laser pickup and if a multi cd-player i'd also check the linking data cable connection at either end, headunit and player, if ok I would then check the audio voltage out of the player, if you don't know how to do that then best to take the unit to an ICE specialist for testing.

I'll check the lead from the head unit to the cd changer first. I replaced the 'o' rings on the heater and changed the bulbs behind the dash recently so I may have upset the plug or a wire to the head unit. I'm based in Boston, Lincolnshire. I will check with a meter for continuity the wires in the iso lead first, as soon as it's a bit warmer!

Quick update, the CD seems to be working now! I used a disc cleaner several times and now it is working, for the time being at least.

Another update, the CD player still has the same problem, it keeps going quiter on it's own. When this happen I use an air line to blow the inside of the CD player and it works agin for a while, I read this on another forum. Probably a hair inside getting attracted to the laser! When I get time I will take it apart for a proper clean.
