Just thought id share my recent CB installation.

Brought a nice little Midland98 CB and fibre glass antenna,
The CB mounted nicely in the glove box under the steering wheel (had to cut the back out of the box to allow cb to fully seat backwards and allow the glove box to close tightly.

Permanent live taken from radio harness (yellow wire) and taken to the switch blank plate to the right of the steering wheel - i installed a little 10amp yellow led switch to turn CB on and off (I didnt like the idea of leaving it permanently powered)

For the antenna i tucked cable along floor to the boot where i went through the rubber boot/loom into the back door and under the glass/through the hole where the brake light and washer pipe pass through.

While the rear door card was out i could see signs of rust on the innder skins so i gave it a good waxoyling while i was in there. Made an aluminium bracket so i could mount the antenna adaptor to the spare wheel carrier!.

Very pleased and a good 5mile range while using it laning yesterday...some pics attached along with a Ford crossing :eek:)

yep it was fine, water was only just up to the sills...just the initial splash caused a wave up the headlight - slow bow wave kept water well below air intake level...wouldnt go into deeper water as it would mess up my alternator..i walked the ford first to check i was ok, there is a good 6inch drop into it which causes you to go nose first! eek!
 
I fitted a Midland 98 to my Defender last week and got a SWR reading on CH1,CH20 and CH40 of 1.1. using a 1.65M Thunderpole mounted as high as possible on the back. I put a thread about it on here as I had a ground plane issue at first.

sweet i'll have a look - got an swr of 1.3 on CH1 & 40...I kept on CH22 with a friend until we could no longer hear each other...very surprised at the capability of these well valued units!

Good stuff ... any SWR under 1.5 is spot on. The 98 is a lovely under complicated unit. Pity there aren't many people on there to chat to these days though but then again it is for green laning / off road days :)

a cb only requires 2cables.. live and neutral!
if you want power on it all the time (so it remembers ur last channel) then you'll have to run a positive feed from either the battery or ignition switch into an inline fuse (check ur cb power rating but I'm guessing a 5amp should be fine, CBS usually come with one these days) then run the black neutral to an earth on your chassis/battery/etc.
make sure your ground is a good one as it will mess up your swr.

OK gang, sorry for cross posting this, but trying to crack this nut... any advise is welcome

Purchased antenna rods, and got a East Europe Pineapple for free, as you can see it looks like SPUTNIK... problem is the Coax cable wont connect to the MK3 pineapple am I missing something here?

Tried to take apart sputnik and fit inside the UK pineapple but that didnt work... Is there some adapter Im missing or something insde the pineapple...

Frankly Im lost, good news is all the antenna rods fit both sputnik and the pineapple perfect, which is weird...
