an swr reading of 1.5 is pretty much standard, you can get it lower but then you'd have to spend about £40 on an aerial

I'd be very interested to know why antenna price has anything to do with SWR?

Is the impedance of the cheaper antennas a lower quality Z?

a more expensive antenna would be better made and matched up for the fequency band

The best way to get a SWR of less than 1.5:1 in a landrover is to mount the twig in the centre of the roof, with a foot square sheet of steel or copper under the base of the mount, then run a thick wire from the steel / copper sheet down to the chassis.

The older ones (with a blue bezel) were better, but that will do just fine.

thats an 80 channel, if you just want it for a bit o banter while laning just get a straight 40. you can pick up bargains on ebay, personally i still use a york jcb863 but there are plenty of well priced rigs out there

yer meen the midland 1001 series, the 4001 was top o the range but the 2001 was equally as good

yeah but i heard alot on e-bay are european models which are on a diff waveband - or old ones that dont comply any more - at that price it dont seem like its worth taking the risk - no?
