As of 16th feb 2014 cars presented for an mot that had a cat or dpf fitted as standard will now fail their mot if the part is missing What a pain

All comes down to where you take it to get it MOT'd then I guess... ;)
 
Keep the cat in the shed and pop it back on for the MOT.

As soon as you've got the ticket, take it off again for another year.

Only a bit of a pain.
