Folks,

Last night i did an oil and filter(s) change on my 2002 85k Disco TD5, I put in Castrol 10w 40 B3 magnatec diesel oil but after doing this change and tidying up i noticed the recomendation chart on the oil container, it says all Landrover diesels except TD6, TD5, etc:(

Will this do my TD5 any harm? will i need to dump this oil and replace?

I'm in the north east of scotland so it does get rather cold but i wondered if this is a casrtol ply to get me to buy the oil that is "acceptable" as it is alot more expensive!

The magnatec was only £31 for 8 litres....

Regards,

gixer

Me too - been running Magnatec Diesel 10-40 for the last 2 oil changes - no problems.

I find the car runs pretty good on it (used to use full synthetic before, but the Magnatec seems smoother).

My car is normally kept in Aviemore, and it's been fine even in winter.

In a TD5 operating within the UK normal temps you really should be using a 5w-30.

The oil you've put in will be ok but it will not give optimum protection for the early morning starts in winter temps. It will also slow the engine turnover on starting and therefore take more out of your battery.

Depending on how many miles you do (15-20,000mls pa), I would leave it in for 5000mls then change for a quality 5w-30, ie before the coldest weather commences.
