Hi all
Does anybody know if the discovery 1 axel has the castor angle machined into the swivel. I am fitting a disco axel to my series and I need to know if the flat on the swivel hub is pre set to 3 degrees or 0 degrees.
Thanks
Kev

If you're yet to buy a set I have a pair of pre converted ones for sale (the rare LHD set up so no need for modifying spring plate for steering clearance)

If not spring sets your castor all you need to do is set your spring seats up right

I have a set thanks. But what I need to know is where to weld the spring plates I need a reference point to set the angle.

The castor is the line thought the steering it should be set to 3degrees positive. There must be a reference point on the hub. There is a flat top an bottom of the hub, I need to know if the flat is 90 degree to the castor if so I can set then angle to 3 degrees to this point or has the hub been designed to have a 3 degrees castor built into it, in which case I need to use the reference point to 0 degrees. The springs cannot alter the castor angle this is set once the plates are welding into position.

Its set by the god damned springs!

No I said the diff is 12* which to anyone else would mean that it has to point up at 12*........

The bump stops will then be parallel to the chassis or -3* I cant remember now and I'm not checking because all this is online

Have fun when you try and figure out how to route your steering set up btw

* means degrees. When I went to school * did not mean that. Degrees is a better word or put a key in so people understand what you mean. Now you are starting to make sense. Please remember if someone asked a question they need help not mind reading.
Also you don't have any idea of my skill and what I can do. You were talking about a diff and I was talking about a hub. The hub is where the castor is. I asked for a reference point on the hub.
I don't mean to have a go but I know it sound like that.

and I told you earlier that the hub has absolutely nothing to do with setting the castor on a series set up the castor angle is set by the springs all you need to do is set up the diff angle!

I may not have an idea but I'm getting a pretty good one from this carry on........

I know what castor does its the vertical axis angle relative to the steering geometry but what I'm telling you is that the springs set it for you, you're trying to mess with something that doesn't get modified on these conversions.......so again I suggest you take it to an engineering workshop or do it your way and lets see how poorly it handles

ffs a baboon would understand this

it's easier to type an asterix than a degree's sign, don't be so pedantic

think a little more laterally mate, DrIvel is really only trying to help

oh and btw

it means by-the-way ;)

You do understand I have a discovery 1 axel going into a series 2a. The disco has coil springs and the 2a has leaf springs.

and I'm telling you I have a series with converted range rover axles on it.......the exact same angles and more or less the same axles

now take it to a bloody shop because you obviously don't understand the fact that the leaf springs set the angle.
