It won't help, but oil in the red plug of the ECU generally causes rough running as a first symptom followed by other stranger things happening.
If the engine won't turn over, the first things to check would be the earthing straps between the engine block and bodywork, the heavy wire between the battery and the starter motor and the state of the contacts in the starter motor solonoid.
There's always the possibility that the starter motor is toast.
There are two fuselinks to check on the engine compartment fuseboard; FL8 (50 amp) and FL12 (30 amp), and also fuse F23 (10 amp) on the passenger compartment fuseboard.
I'm sure others will be along shortly to add to the list of "first things to check".

Battery terminals clean and tight?
Also in addition to Brians list, check main relay
It is also possible that the ECU plug pins are loose ( Took months for me to find I had that one)
Some may say fuel pump but I know mine will start and run (albeit rough) with the fuel relay missing............ but if there's an air leak.........
There is a chance the ignition switch is faulty..... easily checked with a multimeter though.
I think thats covered all your most likely

If it just clicks when the ignition is turned that's classic starter motor contacts worn out. Very cheap repair that! Though can be challenging spanner-work!

It's also classic bad earth/poor battery/ bad live connection and probably other stuff I've never bothered to learn

Check the small wire to the starter motor, these have a habit of getting oil filled from leaking rocker gaskets above... symptoms are intermittent starting.
