Car wont reverse

Morning all!

freelander 2 sport is intermittently refusing to reverse and sometimes drive. Any ideas before this girl takes it to the garage and is at the mercy of the mechanics

Presumably, its automatic. Have you checked the fluid level?

Does it engage the gears OK, just doesn't move when you lift the clutch?

Can you feel it wanting to move or any strange sounds?

Goes into gear but won’t move when releasing clutch and l can feel resistance! Only happens intermittently.

Second issue is a very strange whirring noise when driving, sometimes very loud, sometimes quieter.
I’m going to get it looked at but just hoping for some pointers before l do!

More probably, the clutch need to be done.
If you can still move the car, take it to the garage before being stuck.

Neighbour used to have problems, i put it down to the handbrake being seized on

It's unusual for a manual to work then not work.
I'm wondering if it has an issue with a drive shaft spline, maybe slipping in and out of mesh, which prevents the wheels from turning randomly.

Its one of those problems thats hard to diagnose unless you sit in it and try it yourself.
