I've managed to unplug the bonnet switch completely but the problem still persists. I even held down on the bonnet switch and yet still whines.

But thanks for the idea.
 
Yes, the Freelander stills starts fine...but I have noticed it is starting to get weaker at starting.

I'll try to book another visit to garage but this might not be any moment now.
 
A drop test takes about 30 seconds. Give the garage a ring in advance and they will do it on the spot. I don't know of a garage that charges for this service. They make their money when they sell you a battery.
 
on my disco if you lock with the key the movement sensor in the the car ( volumatic ) is off so maybe there is a fault with that
